路透社報導，59歲的梅伊（Theresa May）是繼佘契爾（Margaret Thatcher）後，英國第2位女首相。佘契爾是在1979年上台，1990年下台。
以下是由女性擔任元首或政府首長的國家名單，聯合國的資料顯示這些國家中有半數誕生首位女性國家元首。
